Hair Nation

I wanted to take this time to thank the folks at Sirius Satellite Radio for channel 23 - Hair Nation. The station has introduced me to some bands that I wasn't even familiar with prior to listening. Such bands include Kik Tracee and Shark Island. It is always a pleasure to hear "Dangerous Darren" on my drive home who is always kicking off a big edition of the program. If you're a fan of this era in music, nothing comes close to Hair Nation.

Worth The Wait?

With the anticipated release of Chinese Democracy and I stress the word anticipated, I am struggling to capture my true emotions. Let the record show that I don't necessarily consider Guns N' Roses a "hair metal" band, however they are one of my favorite metal bands of all time and thus will be mentioned on this blog. Guns N' Roses could quite possibly have been one of the greatest bands of all time, but the unmanageable ego of Axl Rose caused tension amongst his band and ultimately led to its demise. It has been more than 15 years since the band has released a studio album. I should be filled with excitement about Chinese Democracy, however I am frustrated with the way that Axl has treated the producers, management, record label, band and most importantly...the fans. Not only did he break up one of the best bands, however he has wasted countless dollars in the studio. When the current collaboration of Guns N' Roses (that is the one without Slash, Matt Sorum, Duff and Izzy - also read the entire band) came to NJ last year, I refused to pay $90 to see a mediocre excuse for a band. A friend of mine who went to the show said it was the worst money he ever spent. Am I curious about the musical composition on the new record? Sure...Will I purchase the record and ultimately feed Rose's pocket?...That remains to be seen. I will always wonder just how great they could have been.

Introduction

Hi,

This is my first post on the "Glam Rock Fanatic" blog. The music of the 1980's Hair Metal Era has been a part of my life since my early childhood. Even though the era's peak happened several years before I was a teen, I grew to appreciate and love it. Early exposure included the likes of Great White, Lita Ford and Poison. For many years my social circle did not include anyone who also shared the passion for this music, however I was fortunate enough to meet someone in college who appreciated the simple lyrics, high hair and glammed out wardrobe that made the era so great. I've been to many concerts during the last decade or so and have had the opportunity to meet some of my rock heroes. Please join me and share your thoughts. I'll be adding posts about my favorite concert moments so stay tuned!
